I just tried out a tool that determines how hetero your tweets are. After entering my Twitter name (ColleenKane), and a moment of panic that this was going to result in some embarrassing prank tweet sent out through my account, I got my answer: my tweets are a “hybrid” 44% hetero, due to use of the following words and phrases: Cyndi Lauper, Poison, big girl, bent, and New York.

ScannerEmily is an “adventurous” 50% hetero, with noted words whiskey, cheap, cupcakes, windsor, and swoon, and Scanner Brian, BuddyOBush, is a “confusing” 51% hetero, with the following words called out of his tweets: ass, brunch, new york, bless, karaoke.

Barbara Walters gave her review of Bruno on The View today, and it would be the understatement of the year to say she didn’t like it. “If you’re not homophobic it could make you,” she said. After sixty years of membership, former president Jimmy Carter is severing his ties with the Baptist Church, and he’s doing it for women! He believes that those who pick and choose from the Bible to justify their treatment of any group of people–as many Baptists, among other groups, are wont to do–are wrong. So, he publicly revoked his membership as part of his activism with a group called The Elders, which works to “offer their collective influence and experience to support peace building, help address major causes of human suffering and promote the shared interests of humanity.”

So my decision to sever my ties with the Southern Baptist Convention, after six decades, was painful and difficult. It was, however, an unavoidable decision when th e convention’s leaders, quoting a few carefully selected Bible verses and claiming that Eve was created second to Adam and was responsible for original sin, ordained that women must be “subservient” to their husbands and prohibited from serving as deacons, pastors or chaplains in the military service. This was in conflict with my belief - confirmed in the holy scriptures - that we are all equal in the eyes of God.

We hardly didn’t knew ye, Dash Snow, who joined The 27 Club last night after overdosing on heroin at the Lafayette House hotel. But his senseless death is certainly worthy of mention here because he’d been using his own ejaculate lately in his art.  (And, well, the beard.)
